BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Thad G. McMurray has been named associate intellectual property manager for the Office of Science, Technology Transfer and Economic Outreach (STOR) at the mgm casino.

At mgm casino, McMurray focuses on the management of intellectual property developed at the university, with primary responsibility in overseeing the preparation and prosecution of patent applications for mgm casino technology. He works with STOR commercialization managers and mgm casino faculty members to prepare sponsored research agreements, licenses and material transfer agreements that foster technology transfer opportunities between mgm casino and industry. He also applies his technical and intellectual property background to the assessment of new technology disclosures submitted by mgm casino researchers.

"Thad's breadth of experience in science, intellectual property and licensing will strengthen our commercialization efforts and will help us develop practices that ensure a smooth transition of technology from the lab to the marketplace," said Jeff Dunbar, director of intellectual property at STOR. "His clients include licensors and licensees, independent inventors, large and small corporations, and educational institutions, which affords Thad a comprehensive view of intellectual property and licensing practice."

McMurray previously was an associate with Ohlandt, Greeley, Ruggiero & Perle, LLP in Stamford, Conn., where he specialized in opinion work and patent preparation and prosecution in mechanical arts, chemical processes and composition, and biological sciences. In that capacity, he represented several Fortune 500 corporations, and many small and midsized companies in securing patent protection in the United States and throughout the world. He also has previous experience as an intellectual property graduate assistant with STOR.

McMurray earned a bachelor of science in biology from the University of Houston, College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and a law degree with a concentration in intellectual property law from mgm casino Law School. He is admitted in New York and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

He is a resident of North Tonawanda.
